What’s it all About?
“Ida Red” is a song that has African American or minstrel roots. It was recorded by Georgia fiddler Bill Shores and guitarist Riley Puckett in Atlanta in 1926 and was especially popular for the Western swing band Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys’, who recorded a version in 1938. The lyrics poke fun at a lover named Ida Red, and includes verses that appear in other traditional songs.
